Enjoy Your Holidays Using Credit Cards

Holidays means happy times full of family, food and gifts. Many of you like to go on holidays with your family or your wife and you don’t find it difficult with your credit card as many card issuing banks and companies offer travel discounts and holiday packages on their credit cards. Even many of the travel sites give discounts and travel insurance options on doing booking with the credit card.

In India some of the people are breaking away from the custom of patronizing travel agencies and their packages. In fact they are planning their holidays by budgeting airlines, online bookings, etc so that they can cut down on holiday costs. But this will not give insurance cover which is offered by licensed travel agency.

However you can plan your holidays economically by keeping in mind the following tips to get into credit card debt.

  1. Prefer to use credit cards with low interest rate. As credit cards are loans and the longer the length of the loan higher the interest costs. It is better to carry only one credit card with you for holiday otherwise you might face trouble after the holidays if you use more than one card for shopping and food etc.
  2. Make a holiday budget including everything right from lodging, food to shopping. It is better to make a shopping list of each and every family member so that shopping expenses can be planned out and when on holiday once everyone on the list has been checked off, put the credit card away and stop shopping.
  3. The best way is to use your credit card to book airline tickets, hotel accommodations with which your credit card company has come into an agreement and, other purchases for your holiday because if you face any problem during travel, the credit card company will be jointly responsible to cover the cost.
  4. Credit cards are convenient ways to pay overseas or raise foreign cash but it is vital to make sure you are getting a fair deal. Before leaving for holiday, check with your credit card company about the foreign currency transaction charges to avoid any problems.
  5. Cash back credit cards are best option for holiday purchasing. Cash back cards put some money back in your hands every time you make a purchase. Moreover banks have made some cards which operate jointly with specific airlines and hotel bookings. On using these cards you can earn perks such as discounts, offer deals, etc.

Therefore to avoid financial holiday hangover a better approach is to save small amounts of money throughout the year and start making plans for holidays well in time to avoid any financial problems.
